Eugene W. Banks Jr. “Junior”, born September 5, 1933, in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Eugene W. Banks Sr. and Elnora L. Dawson Banks McClure, transitioned to be with the Lord September 18, 2022, at 6:38 A.M. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized in 1981.
Eugene graduated from Dunbar High School in 1952, where he was a trumpet player in the school band; an all-city football player; and a vocalist in the choir. He joined the U. S. Marine Corps to fight in the Korean Conflict. He advanced to the rank of E-3 Lance Corporal after serving for 4 years. Returning to Dayton, he worked for Wolf Janitorial Company as a supervisor, the U. S. Postal Service as a mailroom sorter, and then ended his career as a gas lineman with DP&L/AES Ohio after 42 years.
Eugene was an avid sports fan. His football team was the Cleveland Browns, his college team, Ohio State University, and his baseball team, the Cincinnati Reds. He was also an avid bowler in many different leagues and tournaments all over the state. After retiring, he spent long hours in his recliner in front of the TV watching pro sports and cowboy shows.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Leona Banks, his stepfather, Charles H. McClure, and his brother-in-law, David Evans.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Rickie A. Banks, Brett W. (Vickie Marshall) Banks, both of Dayton, Ohio; grandchildren, William D. Banks, Ikaiko Brewer, Brett Banks Jr., Arielle C. Banks, Jason Mobley; and two great-grandchildren; sister, Agnes Evans “Peggy”; brother, Harry W. (Patricia) McClure of Dublin, Ohio; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
