Estella Winton

“I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only but unto all also them that loved his appearing.” (2 Timothy 4:7-8)

Estella Wade Winton was born February 2, 1922, to the late Joe and Ella Wade in Choctaw, AL. She relocated to Dayton, Ohio in 1946. On December 8, 2024, God saw she was tired and gave her wings to her heavenly home.

Estella was married to Alfred J. Winton for over 50 years before he proceeded her in death.

Estella joined Shiloh Baptist Church where she was a dedicated member until her health failed her. She enjoyed laughter, gardening, and cooking for family and friends. Estella was known as “Big Mama” to her loved ones.

Estella was proceeded in death by her parents Joe and Ella Wade, her husband Alfred J. Winton, one son Michael Wade, two daughters, Elvie Mae Edwards and Dorothy Jean Mitchell, four brothers, Abraham Wade, Alexander Wade, Willie Wade and Albert Wade, two sisters, Tillie Mae Portis and Ella Wade Windom, one granddaughter Brenda L. Mitchell McDougal, and one grandson Brian Edwards.

Estella leaves behind to cherish her memory one sister-in-law Ethel Wade of Dayton, Ohio; seven grandchildren: Michael Edwards (Chenell) of Lancaster, California; Barbara Mitchell, Trena Michell, and Kim Edwards of Dayton, Ohio; Terence Mitchell of Sabaneta, Columbia; Peter Edwards of Cleveland, Ohio; and Sheila (Erman) Cole of San Antonio, Texas; ten great-grandchildren, dedicated great-granddaughter Loren Smith of Columbus, Ohio; dedicated niece Ethel Wade of Dayton, Ohio; two special nephews; Albert Dean Wade (Felicia White, Special Friend), and Anthony James (Jovita) Wade of Dayton, Ohio; dearest friend Mrs. Bernice Stokes of Dayton, Ohio; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral service 11:30 Thursday, December 19, 2024 at House of Wheat Funeral Home, 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave., Dayton, OH. Visitation 10 am- 11:30 am. Family will receive friends 10:30 am- 11:30 am. Interment Dayton National Cemetery.
