Essie Mae Thompson, age 92, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. She was born May 6, 1929 in Richmond, Indiana, the first of two children, to Mary Louise Thompson (stepfather, Thomas W. Thompson “The Boss”).
Essie received her education at Paul L. Dunbar High School, and was a runway model of swimsuits and clothing at the age of 57. She worked as a short order cook at Hoover Lanes to pay for her schooling to become an LPN at the State Hospital. She left there to work for Jobs & Family Services as a supervisor, and after retirement, she opened A-Nails (nail shop).
Her passion was baking cakes and pies, bowling, roller skating, and watching her grandson’s baseball games.
She is preceded in death by her mother and stepfather.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Dennis G. Thompson, Juan Antonio “Tony” Thompson, Janice Paschal; brothers, Reginald D. (Justine) Shelton, Gerald Michael (Pamela) Phoenix; special grandson and granddaughters, Jacin Thompson, Jaylynn and Dawn; special nephew, Pastor Marquis Whisenton; a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held 11 am Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Maranatha Worship Fellowship, 4501 Wolf Rd. Visitation 10 am until time of service. (Mask Required). Entombment Woodland Mausoleum. Arrangements entrusted to House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc.
