Emogene Johnson Obituary

Our dearly beloved wife, sister, and friend loved life and it did not come to an end with her death.

Emogene C. Johnson "big sister", passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at her residence. She was born to Jesse and Gertrude (Peoples) Jordan on August 5, 1944.  After graduating in 1963, from Mobile County Training High School in Mobile Alabama, she moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1966 where Emogene met her husband, Willie Johnson. They were married in May of 1969, and were together for over 54 years.

Emogene worked and retired from Lincoln Storage, Allied Van Line, a moving company, for more than 20 years, as a Professional Packer. She loved listening to the Blues and loved BB King, she enjoyed spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her husband, family, and friends. She had a "green thumb" like her mother and loved growing flowers that filled her home which she affectedly called "her children".

Emogene was the “Matriarch” of her family and enjoyed hosting cookouts and taking vacations with her brother, Thomas Jordan, to their hometown in Mobile, Alabama to spend time with family and friends. Her genuine "tell-it-like-it-is" no nonsense personality made her a strong lifelong friend, confidante, and backbone to her family and friends.

Although Emogene and her husband never had children, she fostered throughout the years many special close mother-like relationships and bonds that forever will be cherished that includes one with her younger brother, Thomas Gene Jordan Sr., who was a strong support in her life.  Emogene’s strong nurturing and caring personality allowed both her and Willie to nurture and care for many family and friend’s children throughout the years. This included her special younger sister, Tanya Jones. A close bond that fostered for many years with Harold “Binky” Green, and his mother, the late Mary Green, and Philleta Jordan, the only child of her sister, the late Dorothy Jordan, along with other nieces and nephews would come visit from Mobile, Alabama during the summer.

Emogene was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Jesse and Gertrude Jordan; siblings, Jesse Jordan Jr., Dorothy “Dot” Jordan, and Richard Jordan.

She was survived in death by her husband, Willie Johnson; siblings, Henry Jordan, Agnes Jordan, Thomas (Brenda) Jordan, Joyce Knight-Jordan, Tanya Jones, and Ray Jordan;  cousins, who were dear to her heart, James Greene Sr., the late James Greene Jr., and Karen Jordan; special close nieces, Philleta Jordan, Tasha Jordan, Kisha Knight-Clausell, and LaKeisha Howard-Baylor; special close nephews, Chris Jordan, Thomas "Tj" Jordan Jr., Greg Howard, and Chrisean “Bam Bam” Jordan; along with a host of other loving nieces and nephews. A special   longtime close family friend, Robert Barrett.
