Emmett Fletcher Jr., born August 26,1938 in Madison, Alabama, to Emmett Fletcher Sr. and Elizabeth Langford-Fletcher, passed away peacefully May 6, 2022, at Hospice of Dayton with his beloved wife, Hazel, at his side.
Emmett grew up in Alabama and came to Dayton, Ohio where he spent 50 plus years raising his family. Emmett was a much-loved custodian at Dayton Public Schools for more than 40 years. After retiring, he worked for several more years as custodian of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member. Emmett never met a stranger and could often be found sitting on the front porch chatting it up with his friends and neighbors.
Emmett was preceded in death by his parents; son, Lee Fletcher; siblings, Annie Bell Miller, O.D. Fletcher, John Fletcher, Ollie Mae Moore and Mary Louise Fletcher; mother-in-law, Ruby Williams; sister-in-law, Sandy Rambo; brother-in-law, Ike Rambo; nephew, David Williams.
Emmett leaves behind his beloved wife of 52 years, Hazel Fletcher; sons, Quinn (Melissa) Fletcher of Dayton, Ferdinand, Al, Darryl and Freddy of Alabama, Glenn Pope of Dayton; daughters, Patricia and Vivian of Alabama, Rosetta of Texas, Theresa Pope and Tonia (Joey) Pope of Dayton; grandchildren, Ryan Pope of Texas, Diamond Perez, Breyelle Fletcher, Camry Herring, Chance Herring, Glenn Pope, Jr., and Canada Pope of Dayton; bonus grandchildren, Caitlyn (Brandon) Burke, Jayona (Ryan) McPherson and Uriah Griffith of Lynchburg, OH; sisters, Lula Mae Phillips and Rosie Carter; brother, Walter Fletcher; sister-in-law, Johnnie Mae Fletcher; brothers-in-law, David Williams and Michael (Alma) Williams; great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 12 noon Friday, May 20, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 27 N. Gettysburg Ave. Visitation 11 am until time of service. Interment West Memory Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc.
