I, Elona Beans, born September 30, 1947 in Crossett, Arkansas, was the first child of Luke Jr. Williams and Flora B. Collins. Daddy and Mama moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1950 along with my two sisters, Flora Jean and Olivia. I went to public schools in Linden Center, Garfield, Miami Chapel, and graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in 1965. I married in 1966 to Nolan Beans, Jr. and had two children, son Nolan, III and daughter, Stephanie Lorraine.
I worked thirty-three years at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as a civilian. During my employment, I became a life member of the Greater Dayton Chapter of Blacks in Government. Also, I volunteered wherever my services were recruited like in 1982 by my alma mater, Paul Laurence Dunbar High School Alumni Association (life member) and the NAACP (life member). I’ve been a believer of the Lord God and his son Jesus Christ, striving to live in righteousness, peace, and love. In my years of serving a faithful God, this became my creed, “You can’t play GOD like he is Jeff-from-the-left.” He is all, knows all, and shall not be mocked.
The Lord has given me my rest. In life, my children were my truest riches and my abundance of grace, my family. Cherished memories are left with my one son, Nolan Beans, III (Monay); my one daughter, Stephanie Lorraine Robinson (Cory); one granddaughter, Jasmine Damier; and two grandsons, Corwyn Nolan Harris and Anthony Ivy (Destney)—two sisters; Flora Jean Anders and Lauretta Williams (one sister, Olivia, passed away in 2001) and three brothers; Dwight Lacy (Irma), Willie Arthur (Sayanora), Frank Andrew (Jacqueline), my life childhood sister/friend, Grace Rucker Parker, and precious nephews and nieces, as well as valued family and friends. In addition, I was graced with two “love-sons” who reached out frequently with a visit checking on my well-being, Will Moreland and Perry Morris and my beloved Gwendolyn Oden, giver of weekly calls and gift-giving.
I now have no breath and spirit nor movement and being, nonetheless; I rest in hope because Jesus promised that he will return. Yet with humbleness, I graciously rest also with his truth, “I was what I was only by the grace of GOD.
