Elease Smith, beloved daughter of Horace B. Smith and Ella Barton, was born on May 31, 1934 in Haley, Tennessee. She peacefully passed away on January 3, 2026 in her long-term town of residence, Dayton, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace B. and Ella Smith; two brothers, Floyd and Horace E. Smith; nephew, James Smith Sr.; and cousins, Paul and Juanita Richardson.
After a fulfilling career in Development and Research at the University of Dayton, Elease retired in 1997. She was dedicated to her work and made many lasting contributions to her field.
Elease lived a full and vibrant life in Dayton, where she was well-loved by her friends and colleagues. Although she had no children of her own, she was a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews, Donyale Smith, James Smith, II, Tierra Smith, and Liam Smith.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Funeral Service 11 am Monday, January 12, 2026 at House of Wheat Funeral Home, 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave., Dayton, OH. Visitation 9 am- 11 am. Family to receive friends 10 am- 11 am.
