Edward Hines, Sr. Obituary

Edward Earl Hines, Sr., also known as Bubba, born December 18,1931 in Anniston, Alabama to Jay and Victoria (Dennis) Hines, departed this life June 21, 2022.

Edward was baptized at an early age and continued his relationship with God throughout his life. During his childhood he had experiences of being a Boy Scout and playing golf. He attended 12th Street Elementary and Cobb Avenue High School in Anniston, Alabama. While in high school, Edward was on both the Varsity Baseball and Varsity Football teams. Based on his athletic abilities and upon graduation in 1950 he earned a scholarship to Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio with the desire to major in Physical Education.

However, in 1952 Edward was drafted into the United States Army to serve during the Korean War. He was based in Germany and received three medals during his service. He returned to Ohio to complete his education. During his studies at Central State University, he met and maintained friendships (Les’Amies Couples Club).

In 1953, choosing to make Dayton, Ohio their home, he married Cynthia Glover. They had three children: Ronald Rene, Rosalind, and Edward Earl, Jr. A person who believed and emphasized work, his employment ranged from skilled tradesman to management. He was employed by the Dayton Police Department, the Dayton Tire and Rubber Company where was promoted to Forman until its closure, and the Dayton Metropolitan Housing Authority where he retired as manager.

An avid golfer, he was a member of Fairway Golfer. If weather and his health permitted, you could find him on the course; if the courses were open, he was there. Whether on the course or television or in person, golf was his outlet.

Edward Earl Hines, Sr. shall be remembered as a person, who loved Anniston, Alabama, enjoyed travel, family board and card games, politics, current events, but an individual with few words. Basically, what he said he meant.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Victoria Hines; sister, Derotha Hines Roberts; brother, Thomas Hines; nephew, Powell Roberts; son, Ronald Rene Hines; grandson, Edward Earl Hines, III.
