Early Edward Davis Sr. “Earl” was born April 1, 1939, to the late Garrett and Cornelia Davis. He attended Dayton Public Schools and graduated from Dunbar High School in 1959. Upon graduation he entered the United States Marine Corps. Upon an Honorable discharge he found work with the City of Dayton where he worked for 30 years until his retirement. Being the type of person to keep active he went on to work at Kettering Memorial Hospital for 17 years.
Earl attended a Baptist Church while reading and studying for himself. When he came upon the seventh day Sabbath, he went to his Pastor who told him that it didn't matter which day he worshipped on. So, he struck out on his own to find a church that kept the Sabbath. He joined Ethan Temple Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1974. When he came in, he came in working as an usher, deacon, member of the Men’s Chorus, and Men’s Ministry. Then under the leadership of Elder Anthony Taylor he joined the Prison Ministry until he could no longer serve.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty Royalston and Harriett Foster; children, Garrett Davis, Marcella Davis-Thompson, Carmella Davis, Earl Davis Jr., and Robert Davis.
He is survived by his faithful and devoted wife of 47 years, Robin McGhee-Davis; brother, Sidney Davis; sister, Cynthia Brown (Tony); sons, Marlin Davis (Kim) and Christopher Davis; daughters, Rhonda Moss and Dawanna Green; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends at Ethan Temple, City workers and employees of Kettering Hospital.
