Dwayne "D.L" Williams, born on February 13, 1961, in Detroit, Michigan, peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of May 20, 2023, after a courageous battle for his health. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and unforgettable memories.
Dwayne's journey of service began when he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy immediately after graduating from high school. He served as an Air Crewman with the esteemed patrol squadron VP-19, embarking on adventures around the globe and forging lifelong bonds with his comrades. After an admirable 23 years of dedicated service, Dwayne retired from the military.
In his post-military career, Dwayne channeled his passion for helping others to work as a counselor within the prison system. He played a pivotal role in rehabilitating and preparing incarcerated individuals for a fresh start in life. Later on, his skills as a handyman allowed him to assist with home repairs and remodeling, positively impacting the lives of those he encountered.
Dwayne possessed a vibrant and multifaceted personality. With his showman spirit, he couldn't resist a microphone at karaoke, captivating audiences with his singing talents. His love for science fiction, Kung-Fu, and horror knew no bounds as he immersed himself in the worlds of Godzilla, Bruce Lee, and countless other iconic figures.
Above all, Dwayne cherished his family, and they adored him in return. He is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah Williams, and his cherished children, Dlana, Janell, Dorian, Lamont, Natasha, Delando, LaToya, and Marquita. His memory will forever be treasured by his loving siblings: Derrick, Tamika, Kenneth, Sean, Annette, Faliesha, Darrell, Eric, April, Kwesi, and LaKescia. Dwayne's aunt, Maxine Williams, also holds a special place in his heart and memory. He will also be deeply missed by his cherished best friend, Jennifer Schaefer, and goddaughter, Jahzarra Mae Schaefer. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, touched by his love and guidance throughout their lives.
As we bid farewell to Dwayne, we find solace in knowing he is reunited with his beloved family members who preceded him in passing. Although it is a difficult farewell, we take comfort in knowing that this is not a permanent goodbye but a heartfelt "see you later." In the embrace of heaven, Dwayne will continue to watch over those he loved so dearly, forever etched in our hearts.
The memory of Dwayne "D.L" Williams will forever inspire us to live with compassion, serve with dedication, and embrace life's joyous moments. He will be immensely missed, but the love and spirit he shared will endure within us until we meet again.
