Dorothy M. Hamilton, affectionately known as Dottie, peacefully departed this life on July 16, 2025. A lifelong resident of Dayton, Ohio, Dottie was a proud graduate of Roosevelt High School.
She retired from Lazarus Department Store, where she not only worked but also modeled in ads and fashion shows. Her grace and poise were evident both on and off the runway.
From a young age, Dottie was a devoted member of the Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, where she served faithfully as the choir director. For the past 20 years, she was a cherished member of Greater Love Fellowship Church of God in Christ. As one of the respected Mothers of the church, she played an integral role—managing finances, organizing the pastor's anniversary banquet, and serving on the Mothers' Board. She had a remarkable talent for decorating and transforming any event into something truly special.
In addition to her many gifts, Dottie earned her realtor's license and used her skills to rehabilitate homes, helping many families accomplish the dream of homeownership. She found joy in creating beautiful spaces and giving back to her community.
Dottie had a deep love for her family and would go out of her way to help those she loved. She was known for her elegance, especially her love of stylish hats and matching suits, whether attending church, special events, or dining out.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lynn Hamilton; her parents, Walter and Lillie Mae Crowder; her brothers Walter, Paul, and Charles Crowder; and her sisters Venna Caldwell, Inez Dixon, Margaret Dandy, and Brenda Boyd.
Dottie leaves to cherish her memory: her loving daughter, Velda Cope (Keith); her granddaughter, Telva Miller; and her great-grandsons, Brian and Brandon Davis. She is also survived by her sisters, Gloria Gunn, and her brothers, Robert and Dennis Crowder (Carmen), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will continue to honor her legacy.
