In the gentle embrace of the autumn breeze, we bid farewell to a faithful servant Dorothy Mae Barnes, who gracefully journeyed to the heavenly realm of eternity on November 25, 2024 at the age of 81. She was born on September 15, 1943 in Sylacauga, AL. Her captivating presence illuminated the lives of everyone who knew her. She was a proud 1961 alumnus of South High School in Youngstown, OH. Dottie was a faithful employee at Saint Elizabeth Medical Health Center for over 35 years.
She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Tabernacle Baptist Church in Youngstown, OH. She served as a Deaconess, Choir Member, Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, Missionary Society member amongst other things.
Dottie was well known and loved for her intricate crochet work, homemade yeast rolls, famous German Chocolate Cake, elaborate fruit infused gelatin desserts aka “Jello.” She spent the majority of her life in the Youngstown area and moved to Dayton, OH in 2019 to be near family. There she joined New Season Ministry in Huber Heights, OH and especially enjoyed attending Silver Saint Ministry activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Perry Thomas and Willie Pearl Thomas; and two brothers Joseph Terry Thomas and Jeffery Alton Thomas.
Dottie leaves to cherish her memory, a son Anthony Barnes (Nazrene) of Victorville, CA; a daughter Karyl Kitchen of Huber Heights, OH; four grandchildren Anthony Barnes, Jr., Jasmin Kitchen, Garrick Barnes, Ashton Kitchen; and six great-grandchildren; Her sister Deborah (Robert Jr.) Taylor of Huber Heights, OH; Sister-in-Love and partner in crime Pearlie Thomas and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral service 12 pm Monday, December 2, 2024 at New Season Ministry, 5711 Shull Road, Huber Heights, OH. Visitation 11 am- 12 pm at which time family will receive friends. Interment Shiloh Park Cemetery. Arrangement entrusted to House of Wheat Funeral Home.
