Doris J. Jenkins

Doris Jean Jenkins was born January 2, 1941 in Rosenburg, Texas, to the late Roland Corley and Albertha Brown. Doris was raised on the east side of San Antonio, Texas and graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High in 1959, where she was a member of the drill team.

On June 13, 1959, Doris united in matrimony to the love of her life, Lorenza Jenkins, a San Antonio native. In 1960, Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins moved to Cleveland, Ohio and eventually relocated to Dayton, Ohio. This union of marriage lasted for almost 62 years and produced three children, Leonard Warren, Sherry Renee, and Angela Nicole. Doris was a loving grandmother to her three grandchildren, Nadia Jenkins, Lorenzo Lewis, and Gabriella Thomas.

Mrs. Jenkins was a dedicated elementary school teacher for over 32 years before retiring in 2001. Over the years, her family met several former students of Mrs. Jenkins, who always spoke very highly of her teaching ability. During her tenure, Doris was also the assistant principal and treasurer at Ruskin Elementary. Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins were avid travelers to places like Hawaii, Las Vegas, California, Texas, the Bahamas, train rides across the country, and cruises. Following her retirement, she was also a dedicated member of Centerville’s Diversity Committee.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Lorenza Jenkins; Leonard Jenkins (Sonja Jenkins), Sherry Jenkins, Angela Jenkins-Thomas (Ezra W. Thomas); grandchildren, Nadia Jenkins, Lorenzo Lewis, and Gabriella Thomas, and a host of family members and friends.
