Donna B. Harper, age 89, departed this life Wednesday August 16, 2023, at Miami Valley Hospital. She was born to Reverend Thomas Grace and Florence (Brightwell) Grace in Mansfield, Ohio in 1933.
Donna was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, Class of 1951. She was a wonderful blues soloist and participated in many of the high school’s “Varsity Varieties” activities. She began her government service career at a facility in Shelby, Ohio and was soon transferred to the Defense Electronic Supply Center in Dayton, Ohio where she was the recipient of numerous performance awards for her work in computer programming. After more than 35 years of service, she was able to enjoy a comfortable retirement with friends and family.
Donna was an avid learner, self-taught in dress design, upholstery, canning/preserving, and gardening. She loved beautiful things and the idea of creating them. She and her loving husband Chuck, would get an idea, make a detailed plan, and working together could always be counted on to create something beautiful. In later years she enjoyed travel, bowling, bridge, and line dancing.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Florence Grace; her loving husband of 56 years Charles A. Harper.
Donna leaves to cherish her memory daughter, Joy A. Harper of Clayton, Ohio; son, Dr. James E. (Nonoka) Harper of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter, Kim E. Harper Redd of Dayton, Ohio; brother, Theodore (Linda) Grace; sisters, Cheryl Chia’Kur, Gina Armstrong; four grandchildren, Charles A. Harper II, Markita L. Harper, Cameron D. Redd, and Courtney L. Redd; three great grandchildren, Caleb and Caden Harper, and Kamri D. Redd; a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation 11 am- 1pm Friday, August 25, 2023, at House of Wheat Funeral Home, 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave., Dayton, Ohio. Family will receive friends 12pm- 1pm. Livestream service begins at 1 pm. Interment West Memory Gardens.
