Dennis Jay Sanders, age 61, born June 13, 1960, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Ms. Mattie L. Sanders, and the late James Sanders, transitioned from this life unexpectedly and went home to be with the Lord January 7, 2022.
Jay attended Dayton Public Schools and graduated from Colonel White High School, Class of 1979. He also graduated from Truck Driving School and received his CDL license and worked for the McKesson Company for many years. Jay also worked for Valerie Arms Nursing Home, Good Samaritan Hospital, the Schuster Center, and various hotels. He received several awards and certificates as a result of his many work-related accomplishments. He enjoyed cooking for large family gatherings, and his most recent profession was in the culinary world as a cook for Job Corps. His responsibilities included preparing food, managing food stations, cleaning the kitchen and mentoring other cooks with his expert advice.
Jay was a member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Parking Lot Attendant. He enjoyed greeting the members and visitors and assisting them with parking before and after the service. Jay enjoyed socializing with people wherever life took him. He met very few strangers. He also enjoyed traveling all over the United States of America to places such as Las Vegas, NV, Detroit, MI, Augusta, GA, Los Angeles, CA, Philadelphia, PA, Browns Mills, NJ, Orlando, FL and all points in between.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; son, Dennis Jay Sanders Jr. “Little Jay”; brother, Carl D. Sanders; father, James Sanders Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Ms. Mattie L. Sanders; loving and devoted daughter, Janiece Sanders; grandchildren, Jo’Dyaire Janya Newton, Dennisha Henderson, Davion Jamarr Henderson, Demonta Sanders, Leon Damar Sanders; great grandchildren, Demiya Sanders, Naomi Sanders, Denver Sanders, Ace Henderson; brothers, Terry Sanders, Jeffery (Marcy) Sanders; nephew, David Lewis Sanders; nieces, Carla Sanders, Shala Sanders; former wife and special friend, Barbara Davis; devoted sister-in-law, Deborah Sanders-Martin; aunts, Mary Gaines, Ellene Williams, Elizabeth Walker; uncle, Minister Samson (Navy) Walker; a host of friends in Christ: Bishop Joshua Washington, Brother Myron Sanderfer Sr., Brother Andre’ Butler; numerous cousins, other relatives, friends and co-workers.
