Della Brooks Obituary

Della Marie Brooks, born July 11, 1942, in Dayton, Ohio to the late Rosa Lee Mundy and Davis Mundy, went home peacefully July 19, 2022, to be with her heavenly father, surrounded by family and friends at Miami Valley Hospital.

Della was a native of Dayton and a proud graduate of Roosevelt High School, Class of 1960. Della knew Christ at an early age, she was baptized by her grandfather, the late Rev. D.D. Mundy, Pastor of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. She later joined Valley Peace Missionary Baptist Church where she was a faithful member for the last 15 years. She was a dedicated member of the Valley Peace Senior Choir and The Women of Peace. She loved to stay connected with members of the church through phone calls, cards, and letters to keep them updated and to check in on them if they weren’t feeling well or hadn’t been to services in a while. She was a retired employee of General Motors; she also spent many years working at McDonald’s and the Plaza Motel.

Della was affectionately known as “Marie”, “MaMa”, “Granny”, “Aunt Marie”, “ReRe”, and a family favorite; “Shortie”. She was a loving and devoted mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She enjoyed doing her word puzzle books, watching her favorite stories; Young and the Restless and Bold & the Beautiful, watching her judge tv shows, attending church, singing in the choir, going out to restaurants, and supporting her loved ones with her presence at everything that she could attend; performances, award ceremonies, graduations, dance recitals, sporting events, and anything else they were involved in, which is proof that more than anything, she loved spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Timothy Mundy, and special friend, Walter McNair.

Della Marie leaves to cherish beautiful memories, her loving children, daughter, Adria (Dierre) Maddox of Akron, Ohio; sons, John (Joei) Brooks, Jr, Stephen Mundy and DuJuan Brooks, all of Dayton, Ohio; devoted sisters, Patricia Wiley and Debbie (Rev. Jackie) Robinson, and brother, Dwayne Mundy, all of Dayton, Ohio; grandchildren, Christopher Mundy, Darryl and Ambria Clay, Brittany Brooks, John III, Ken’yon, Jo-Juan, Raelynn, and Joe Brooks, Tyler Trosper, Latoya Durham, Stephen Jr. and James Mundy; great-grandchildren, Alayah, Antonio and Brooke Clay, Aariyah Clay-Ely, Aaliyah Whitfield, Brianna and Brayden Kelly, Aleya Durham and Aria Mundy; nephews & nieces, Timothy Mundy II, Barry Johnson, Karen Cabral, Shawn (Tandra) Wiley, Nichole Wiley-Marks, Kelly and Kacey Watts; special friends, Sandra Smith, Vickie Robinson, Betty Anne Goines, Earl Wallace and Ray (Butch) Cunningham; and a host of other relatives, friends and church family.
