HAYES, Sr., Clarence, age 73, was born March 5, 1945 in Catherine Alabama to the late Booker Sr. and Rosie Hayes, passed early Monday morning April 30, 2018, after a long battle with cancer. He was a graduate of Keith High School, Alabama, Class of 1964 and with pride served his country in the United States Army, where he earned the National Defense service medal and expert badge for sharp shooting. He received an honorable discharge after 3 years of service. He was then employed by McCall’s Printing Corporation for 15 years, until the company left Dayton in 1982. He then worked as a handyman for W&W appliance and SM Skeleton Remodeling and Repair.
Clarence married Delores Barrett on April 17, 1971 and from this blessed union they have four children. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and neighbor. He was a family man and was respected by all that knew and met him. Clarence was willing to do everything he could to help family and friends. He was curious and clever by nature, loved figuring out how things worked and how to fix them. He had various interests- including a love for cars, he raced and fixed them. In his youth, in his spare time he worked as a jockey in harness racing. He was a sports fan, and enjoyed watching football and basketball games, and his favorite team was the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a modest man, who was extremely loyal to his family. As an attentive Grandfather, he leaves cherished memories of summer, fishing and loud talking love.
Preceded in death by his loving wife Delores Hayes; brothers, Harold and Charles Hayes; sister, Ruth Cunningham; dear friend, Owen Smith Sr. He leaves to cherish fond memories and celebrate his legacy; his loving sons, Anthony and Ryan and daughters, Tameka (Rodney) and Miya; grandchildren, Shannel, RJ, Kyren, Rhaya, Skylar and Remington; brothers, Booker (Janice), Joe (Angie), and John (Cynthia); sisters, Betty Green, Elizabeth Jordan, Doris Alves, Rebecca Briggins, Rosie Hayes; devoted niece, Charlotte (Jeff) Cannon; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and others too numerous to mention.
Memorial service will be held 11 am Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave. Min. Raleigh Thornton Jr. officiating. Calling hour 10 am at which time family will receive friends.
