Carolyn Canty Obituary

Carolyn Maria Canty “Ms. CC”, daughter of Thomas Phillips Sr. and Catherine Elizabeth (Seamon) Jones, born August 1, 1946, in Dayton, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord December 20, 2021, at Grandview Hospital, Dayton, Ohio.

Carolyn attended Roth and Roosevelt High Schools, and later worked as a Human Resource Assistant at Rankin Radio and Television, Dayton. She also was employed at the Marriott Hotel Chain in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry, and she was also employed as a Manager at the Sam Walton Walmart Centers in Dayton. This was a span of over 50 years of service.

Ms. CC will always be remembered by her smile, her love for family and friends, and her outgoing personality. She could be found sitting at cheerleading practice, or at the Dunbar High School Basketball and Football game(s). Carolyn was an active member of Dixon United Methodist Church from the time she was a young girl. She supported the youth choir of Dixon United Methodist Church as well as five other church choirs in the Dayton area, such as the legendary James Cleveland Gospel Music Workshop of Dayton.

Ms. CC never met a stranger. She leaves a rich legacy of love, strength, joy, and wisdom which will live in the lives of so many hearts forever.

She is preceded in death by her father, Mr. Thomas Phillips Sr; brother, Thomas Phillips Jr; mother, Catherine Elizabeth Jones; former husband, Joseph Malachi Canty; stepfather, George Richard Jones.

She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted family:  her son, Anthony Tigner, U.S. Navy, Retired (Ms. Regina Ann Rivers); daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Soloman Blevins, U.S. Army, Retired; grandchildren, Sir Keith Richard Tigner of Norfolk, VA, Sgt. Tiara Blevins, Active-Duty, Army of Fort Benning, GA, Ms. Khantel Tigner (Kent State University), Ms. Aaliyah Blevins (Old Dominion University), and Mr. Khacor Tigner (Ohio State University); precious great granddaughter, Ms. Camille Tigner of Norfolk, VA; loving stepmother, Ms. Christine Phillips; wonderful sisters, Ms. Teresa Franklin, Ms. Doretha Malone, and Ms. Danita Phillips, all of Dayton; close friend, Ms. Bonnie of Dayton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives near and far.

Calling hour 12-1 pm Thursday, December 30 at the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave. Memorial service at 1 pm. (Mask Required).
