Carl H. Cameron Sr., age 93, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026. He was born to the late Fred Cameron and Mary Riley in LaGrange, Georgia, on February 4, 1933. In 1946, Carl moved to Dayton, Ohio, which he called home for the rest of his life.
As a proud veteran, Carl served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, exemplifying discipline and courage, deploying to the Korean Conflict War. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Carl worked at General Motors for 27 years, retiring in 1994.
Carl was the patriarch of a large and vibrant family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 47 years, Linda Cameron, his siblings: Mary Williams, Alton Cameron and Willie F. Cato, and his stepchildren: Derrick Finley, Tammy Finley, and Keith Finley.
Carl leaves to cherish his memory his devoted siblings: Nannie Rhodes (Eddie) and Marsha Dansby (Marshall). He leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience through his 6 children: Shelia Monroe, Greg Kelly (Jacqueline), Yvonne Knight, Roslin Cameron, Carl Cameron Jr. of GA, and Carl "Boosie" Cameron (Amber) of OH; as well as Bob Vaughn (Sharonn) and Neltesa Finley-Powell (Michael), whom he took under his care and loved as his own. Carl Sr. will be lovingly remembered by his 11 grandchildren & 13 great-grandchildren.
Known for his friendly spirit and love of good company, Carl enjoyed bowling, playing horseshoes, dominoes, playing cards, watching baseball, and socializing with his fellow club-members of The Parliament Club. Whether he was at his spot Vibez, sharing a nip, or simply being his witty comedic self, Carl brought laughter and love to every gathering.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy of love, loyalty, and strength will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Funeral Service 11 am Saturday, February 21, 2026 at House of Wheat Funeral Home, 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave., Dayton, OH. Visitation 9 am- 11 am. Family will receive friends 10 am- 11 am. Interment 9 am Monday, February 23, 2026 at Dayton National Cemetery.
