Betty Green, born in Catherine, Alabama, the second oldest of twelve children, departed this world Friday, September 6, 2019. Her elementary school years were spent at St. Phillips Lutheran School. She attended and graduated high school from Wilcox County Training School in Millers Ferry, Alabama. She matriculated at Knoxville College in Knoxville, Tennessee. Betty moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1955 where she was employed by McCall Corporation for over 16 years, when the corporation changed ownership, she went to work in the credit department for the Rike-Kumler Company, a local department store. She eventually went to work for another department store, Elder-Beerman, where she retired after 20 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Booker Sr. and Rosie Hayes; grandmother, Lizzie Partridge; husband, John Green, Sr.; son, John Green Jr.; sister, Ruth Cunningham; brothers, Charles Hayes Sr., Clarence Hayes and Harold Hayes.
She leaves behind a daughter, Charlotte Cammon (Jeff); son, Daryl Green; granddaughter, Teeria Prather; grandson, James E. Cammon II; sisters, Elizabeth Jordan, Rebecca Briggins, Rosa Hayes, Doris Alves; brothers, Booker Hayes Jr. (Janice), Joe Hayes (Angelia), and John Hayes (Cynthia); sisters-in-law, Olivia Ewing, Ruth Green; brother-in-law, Oliver Green; other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held 10 am Friday, September 13, 2019 at the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment Dayton National Cemetery.
