Bertha Ophelia Cameron was born January 21, 1943, to Melvin and Allie Pinkney in the city of Adamson in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma. She was number 10 of 15 children born to that union. Bertha departed this life Monday, April 17, 2023, surrounded by her family.
Bertha graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma in 1961, then the family moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1964. Bertha later moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1966 with the love of her life, James Cameron. To this union was born 3 beautiful children: Darnell, Cynthia, and Dumont Cameron. Bertha retired from Catalpa Manor Nursing Home as lead dietician.
Bertha was a faithful member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where she loved to invite her family and friends to visit. She was a fun and fiery soul who took on many passions. She enjoyed cooking her delicious meals, and she found comfort and peace in loving her family and all children in the neighborhood. Bertha was a beautiful person inside and out. Her smile was so stunning it would light up the entire room.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother Melvin and Allie Pinkney; sisters, Theron Rozier, Eva Ann Brown, Mary Lou Tremble, Jessie Pinkney, Rhonda Sue Simmons, and Lauren Solomon; brothers, George, Melvin Jr., James, Calvin, Howard, Noel, and Richard Pinkney.
She leaves to cherish her memory; daughter Cindy; sons Darnell Sr., and Dumont Sr.; 12 grandchildren, Denisha, Sh’ron(Aaron), Sharnell, James, Shanique, DeAnthony, Darnell Jr., Jaleesa, Dumont Jr. Jermaine, Jaliyah, Ariannah; 17 great grandchildren; her special friends, Sheila Green and Ann Sanders; her beloved brother, Muriel Pinkney of Kansas City, Missouri is left to carry her memory, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
Funeral service 11 am Saturday, April 22, 2023, at House of Wheat Funeral Home, 2107 N. Gettysburg Avenue, Dayton, Ohio. Visitation 9 am- 11 am. Family to receive friends 10 am- 11 am. (Mask Required). Interment Shiloh Park Cemetery
