BROWN, Barbara Jean (Brame), born April 29, 1938 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Thomas B. Brame Sr. and Elsie Rippy (Brame) Johnson, made her peaceful transition with family by her side on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Springhills Singing Woods Assisted Living in Dayton.
Barbara graduated from Dunbar High School, Class of 1956. She was passionate in her care of the veterans at the VA Hospital in Dayton until 1988 when she relocated to the VA Hospital in Decatur, GA where she retired after 30 years of service. She then started a new career in the finance industry at Sun Trust Bank where she re tired a second time after 10 years of service. Barbara led a very active and social life where she was a member of the American Businesswomen Association. She was an avid bowler, skater and loved line dancing and would stay on the floor all night. Barbara never met a stranger and loved her kids, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all of her family especially her family from Tennessee. She loved to travel and on her 80th birthday she learned how to Zip Line and went horseback riding while cruising in the US Virgin Islands. She gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of Revelation Missionary Baptist Church in Dayton, serving in the Nurses Guild. While living in Georgia, she was a member of Mt. Prospect Baptist Church, singing in the choir and active in the Children’s Ministry. Upon returning home to Dayton, she rejoined Revelation M. B. Church and would frequently visit Phillips Temple Church.
Barbara married her first love, Bernard Johnson and was happily married for over 10 years. She married her longtime friend, Merther Brown Jr. in 1988 after relocating to Douglasville, Georgia.
Preceded in death by husband, Merther Brown Jr.; loving sister/best friend, Mary Louise Brookins; devoted brother, Thomas B. Brame Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Brenda Joyce Williams of Marietta, GA, Cheryl Ann (Gerry) Griffith of Dayton, Jeffery Terrance (Christina) Brame of Suffolk, VA, Anita Louis Andrews of Dayton, Victoria Lynn Brame-Greathouse of McDonough, GA; grandchildren, Chevonne L. Wood, Brandon L. Sr. (Dianna) Brame, Quincy L. Wood, William W. III (Maya) Andrews, Courtney L. (Ashlyn) Greathouse, Reginald J. Greathouse II, Johnathan J. Andrews, Christopher C. Sr. (Britney) Andrews of Hampton, VA; 17 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, special cousins in Tennessee; a host of other relatives and many special friends.
