Arzella Taylor Obituary

Arzella Taylor, age 84, a longtime resident of Dayton, Ohio peacefully passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023, in Streetsboro, Ohio. Arzella better known as “Zell” was born on June 6, 1938, in Parkdale, Arkansas to Floyd Lowe and Aris (Nelson) Lowe.

Arzella attended Rock Island High School and Winola High School. She graduated from Western University with a Bachelors in Education. Zell was a public-school teacher in Rockford, Illinois, Decatur, Illinois and Dayton, Ohio. She retired after 37 years of teaching.

She met her loving Husband Elvin at Western University. They were married in July of 1962. They welcomed three children into the family: Lavell in 1963, Corey in 1976 and Roxie in 1978.

Zell had a heart of gold. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, and grandmother. Her family was her pride and joy. She enjoyed traveling, making ceramics, cooking, and watching tennis and basketball. Anyone who had the pleasure of tasting Zell’s homemade rolls knows that she had a way in the kitchen. She loved cooking holiday meals and making sure that her grandchildren always had cookies or cakes to eat. Zell was very witty and gave great advice. She had a calming demeanor that will be missed. She had a way of feeding your stomach as well as your soul. She was very creative and artsy which can be seen in all of her ceramic work and holiday decorations that she made.

She is preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Aris Lowe; husband of 57 years, Elvin L. Taylor; infant son, Corey Taylor; brothers Henry and Jerry Lowe; sister Margaret “Peggy” Lowe.

Arzella is survived by son Lavell (Rita) Taylor; daughter Roxie Taylor; sisters, Vera Babers of Rock Island, Illinois, Irean Pettigrew of Chicago, Illinois, Dororthy Nance of Sun City Center, Florida; brother, Bobby (Cindy) Lowe of Davenport, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Donneyelle (Dominic) Blocker, Ja’Toya Taylor, Lavell Mabato, Tre’Vaughn Taylor, Tyler (Kendra) Roberts, Gavin Walker and Ryan Walker; four great-grandchildren, Brea Carpenter, Elijah Blocker, Noah Mabato and Kassidy Roberts.
