Anna Mayo, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on January 2, 2026, after a decade long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on November 28, 1960, in Dayton, Ohio, to Mark Mayo Jr. and Pauline Justice Mayo.
Anna valued education and earned her bachelor’s degree from Wright State University. She devoted her professional life to public service, retiring from the State of Ohio, where she served as a Social Security Adjudicator, a role that reflected her intelligence, fairness, and deep sense of responsibility to others.
In retirement, Anna continued to live out her calling as a caregiver. She worked and volunteered with adults with special needs and contributed to the upbringing of many children throughout her life. Nurturing, guiding, and caring for others was not just something she did, but the purpose that defined her life.
Anna was a deeply spiritual woman whose faith in Christ guided her actions. She was known for her strength, perseverance, and compassion. Above all, she was a devoted mother and grandmother, and her family was the center of her world.
She is survived by her children, Calvin Cooper, Richard Cooper, Davis Penn, and James Penn, and by her beloved granddaughter, Rianna Bosley Cooper. She is also survived by her sisters, Hope Mayo and Renee Mayo Gibson.
Anna’s life was marked by service, resilience, and love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those whose lives she touched.
