Anita Ivorynne (Showers) Wright, born April 30, 1944, in Bessemer, Alabama, peacefully transitioned from this life on March 24, 2026, at the age of 81. The eldest child of Ernest and Catherine Showers, Anita grew up in a warm, close-knit community surrounded by family and lifelong friends.
A 1962 graduate of Wenonah High School, she went on to attend Tennessee State University, where she met and married the love of her life, Richard L. Wright, beginning a devoted union that lasted more than 60 years. The couple later settled in Dayton, Ohio, where they raised their children, Nyra and Ryan, and became active members of the community.
After pausing her studies to focus on her young family, Anita completed her bachelor’s degree in education at Central State University in 1982. She would later earn her master’s degree in education from the University of Dayton in 1988. Anita served more than two decades as a Special Education teacher in Dayton Public Schools. She was known for her compassion, high expectations, and dedication to creating meaningful experiences for her students – including a memorable 1999 cultural exchange trip to Aichi, Japan.
Anita was actively involved in numerous service and civic organizations in Ohio. In 1983, she became a member of the Beta Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She was also an active member of the Dayton chapters of Jack and Jill of America, The Sophisticates, Inc., Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., and The Epicureans, Inc. She embraced life with grace and joy, especially through travel, social events, and the companionship of her beloved husband.
Anita was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 60 years, Richard Wright; parents, Ernest and Catherine Showers of Bessemer, Alabama; her brother, Ernest Ronald Showers of Trotwood, and her daughter, Nyra Landrum of Dayton. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving son, Ryan Lovell Wright, Sr., and daughter‑in‑law Tyra; grandsons Jaryn Landrum (Charlotte, NC), Charles (Sophia) Wright (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA), and Ryan Wright, II (Anaheim, CA); great‑granddaughter Reese Wright (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA); brother‑in‑law Wilbert Wright; sisters‑in‑law Jacqueline Wright and Tee Ella Showers (Dayton), a host of beloved nieces, nephews and numerous dear friends.
