Andre Owings

Andre Owings final transition on the afternoon of Thursday, August 8, 2024. He was born on December 12, 1956 to the late George Owings Sr. and Octavia Mitchell Owings in Dayton, Ohio.

Andre spent his final months of Life residing at Sienna Woods Skilled Nursing Facility.

Andre was a man of few words, and lived his life the best he knew. He was independent in his thoughts so much so that he liked taking equipment apart and reassembling them to see how they worked.

Andre was an avid lover of sports. He loved playing tennis, and watching all types of sports in person and on television. He was a "frequent fixture" at all types of sporting games and activities in the Dayton area. Andre was DPS's (Dayton Public Schools) number one fan. He was frequently in attendance at the Dayton Flyers games. 

Andre's final gesture was the "fist bump" that he gave to his brother before saying goodbye.

While our hearts mourn the loss of Andre, we take comfort in knowing that he’s no longer suffering. Scripture teaches us at 2 Cor.5:8 - "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord".

Preceded in death by his father and mother -George Owings, Sr., and Octavia Mitchell Owings; brother, George Owings Jr.

Andre is survived by his brother, Richard (Vermelle) Owings Sr.; sister: Sarah Owings; nephews, Kenneth (Sjoukie) Washington Sr. and Richard Owings Jr.; niece, Katina Hill; 7 grand nieces; 4 grand nephews; 2 great grandnieces; 2 great grand nephews; aunt, Catherine Curry; a host of cousins and friends. A special thanks to the beloved neighbors of Everett Drive, Mr. Clarence and Mrs. Ethel Cockrell, Mr. Roger Thompson, and Mr. John and Gregory Shaw.

Funeral service 11 am Monday, August 19, 2024 at House of Wheat Funeral Home, 2107 N. Gettysburg Avenue, Dayton, OH. Visitation 9 am- 11 am. Family will receive friends 10 am- 11am. Interment West Memory Gardens.
