Alvin Jackson Obituary

Alvin Leonard Jackson, who referred to himself as “Big Al” was born January 29, 1959, in Grady, Alabama.  He was the youngest of 10 children born to the late Luther Murphy and Lillie Pearl (Briggs) Jackson (“Mom Pearl”).

Mom Pearl’s oldest son (Bill) moved her and her six youngest children to Dayton when Alvin was seven years old.  Alvin attended Jefferson and Highview Elementary schools and then graduated from Patterson Cooperative High School in 1978.  Alvin loved sports and played basketball for Patterson for a number of years.  He spent several semesters at Wright State University and Sinclair College before starting to work at General Motors.  He retired from GM Truck and Bus in 2008.

Alvin dedicated his life to Jehovah in 1982 and served him faithfully as part of the Southwest Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses until his death.  Alvin tried to share the truth from God’s word with all whom he met.

Alvin was a kind, honest and generous person who always had a smile on his face. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching The Price Is Right and Family Feud.  He was also a television news junkie!  He was a loyal fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Mason; one family-adopted daughter, Marsha K. Boyd; and one great niece, Kira Jackson-Jones.

He is survived by 5 sisters, Lillie (Henry) Holt, Bettye J. Betts, Annie M. Jackson, Lillian Jackson, and Vurniece Jackson; 3 brothers, William M. (Janie) Jackson, Lamar (Elaine) Jackson, and Samuel J. (Judith) Jackson; 5 aunts, Priscilla Jackson Upchurch (Chicago, IL), Bettye Briggs (Detroit, MI), Lela Valentine, Ella Briggs, and Avan (Willie) Bristow (Dayton); 2 uncles, Melvin (Angie) Jackson, and Jacob Knox, both of Chicago, IL.  Alvin has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including Robert Ratliff and special friends and running buddies John Michael Farmer, and John Frazer.
