Velma M. Lennon, born January 31, 1947 in Clarkton, North Carolina, departed this life September 25, 2019.
She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Clarkton, North Carolina and attended North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio for 20 years where she served on the Usher Board. Then she united with Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church in Trotwood, Ohio and was a faithful member where she served as the President of the Love in Action Ministry. She was a retired postal worker with 35 years of service as a carrier, a clerk and a supervisor. She also worked at the Trotwood Public Library.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Emmanuel and Ina Ruth Monroe; husband, Roger Lennon; brothers, Franklin and Wilburt Monroe; close friend, Juanita Jackson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Veronica (Joseph) McCalister and Lashonda (Andre) Bass; grandsons, Terrence Lennon, Andre Bass, James Woolfolk and Brandon Bass; great grandchildren, Marvin, Mariea and Mariyah Alsup; a host of nieces and nephews, special friends, Linda Peters, Margaret Payne, Laura Bush, Yvonne Clay and Georgia McAlpine, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held 11 am Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Pleasant Green M.B. Church, 5301 Olive Rd. Visitation 9 am at the church until time of service. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment Woodland Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc.
