Shirley Jordan Obituary

Mother Shirley Ruth Joann (Thompson) Jordan, born on January 23, 1942 in Oakridge, Tennessee, although reared in Knoxville, Tennessee, transitioned from this life to be in the presence of the Lord August 23, 2019. She was the eldest child born to the union of Joseph Nathaniel and Helen Ruth Thompson.

The family relocated to Dayton, Ohio when Shirley was approximately 12 years old. Shirley accepted Christ as her personal Savior, and was baptized and received the Holy Ghost at age 15 years old. She has been a faithful and active member of Mt. Zion AOH Church of God for over 60 years. Over the years, Shirley has served as Asst. President of the YPLJ, a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member and worked in the church kitchen with her mother. Most recently, Shirley served as the State Mother for Ohio and Kentucky, Member of the Mother’s Board, President of the Missionaries, and a Pastor’s Aid Society member. She chaired the Pastor’s Aid Anniversary Committee for many years. Additionally, Shirley worked with the kitchen ministry.

Shirley not only babysat her grandchildren, she retired from the Ohio Hunger Task Force where she provided care to numerous children. She loved caring for children and was affectionately known as “granny” by them all.

She is preceded in death by the “love of her life”, her husband, Roy E. Jordan; parents, Joseph and Helen Thompson; brothers, Aaron “Tank” Thompson, Joseph Thompson, Virgil Thompson; son-in-law, Michael J. Brown; step-children, Jackie Jordan and Curtis Jordan; granddaughter, Nicole Brown; special friend, Joann Napier.

Shirley leaves to cherish fond memories: her three sons and daughters-in-love, Michael and Sonia Jordan, Kenneth and Shelia Jordan, Roy Jordan and Anneitta Muhammad; two daughters and son-in-love, Cynthia Jordan Brown, Teresa and William Younger all of Dayton, Ohio; step-children, Ernest Jordan of Waynesboro, Mississippi, Billie and Lee Arthur Powe of Waynesboro, Mississippi, Lois and Sidney Aaron of Sandusky, Ohio, Shirley and Dwayne Bickham of Dayton, Ohio; sisters, Mary J. Richardson of Atlanta, Georgia, Gloria (Stanley) Cunningham of Dayton, Ohio and Barbara (Norman) Dukes of Louisville, Kentucky; aunt, Geraldine Mackey of Knoxville, Tennessee; brothers-in-love, James Jordan, Bobbie (Clister) Jordan, and John (Jean) Jordan, all of Dayton, Ohio; sister-in-love, Dorothy Figgers of Dayton, Ohio; special friends, Mother Clara Chambers, Sister Patricia Hooks; sixteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Mt. Zion A.O.H. Church of God, 12 College Street, Dayton, OH 45402. Elder Darius Stanley officiating. Visitation 9:00 am until time of service. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment Dayton National Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc.
