Michael Duane Matlock, of Dayton, born April 3, 1951 in Toledo, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at his home. Michael was the firstborn son, of ten children, from the union of Robert and Marcia. He graduated from Central State University and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Dayton. Michael had a long successful career as an attorney serving the community from which he received his degree. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Equity Lodge 121, the Royal Arch Masons, and past potentate of Amer Temple 107. He was known as a loveable free spirit who enjoyed the company of family and friends (…sometimes), and outdoor activities including hunting and fishing. Michael was the life of the party and will be dearly missed by those who were lucky enough to know him.
Michael is preceded in death by his brothers, Carlton Matlock and Robert Matlock, Jr. Michael is survived by his mother, Marcia Matlock (Griffith), and his father, Robert Matlock; siblings, Stephen Matlock, Sandra Matlock-Williams (Lee Williams), Regina Matlock, Relda Bates, and Stephanie Watson; daughter, Erin Luckey (and her children Tyler and Cassandra), sons, Taras Howell (and his children Tyla, Taylor, and Ethan), Stephen Matlock II (and his sons Stephen Matlock III, Malik Abdul), Jarett Matlock, Griffith Matlock (and his son Griffith Matlock II), and beloved daughter, Micala Matlock; a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and people who loved him.
Funeral service will be held 1 pm Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave. Rev. Sylvia Moseley-Robinson officiating. Visitation 10 am at the funeral home until time of service. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
