Marlien A. Thompson, of Dayton, Ohio, born March 25, 1933 in Lima, Ohio, died January 27, 2018 at Hospice of Dayton. She was valedictorian of Harveysburg High School, Class of 1951. She was a lifelong lover of music. She enjoyed singing, playing piano and organ, and gardening--both flowers and vegetables. She started and directed the Cherubette Choir at Greater Allen AME Church. She served as Vice President of the Headstart Parents, and President of the McNary School PTA. She was an advocate for her children's and grandchild's education and activities. Preceded in death by her parents, Marlie and Mildred (Hurd) Vaughn. She leaves to mourn: love of her life and husband of 64 years, Jack L. Thompson; children, Jacqueline (the late, Ted Buttel), Karen, Philip, and Jay (Kim); granddaughter, Kandace (Joshua) Walters and children; sister, Mattie J. V. Mathews; nephews, Michael and Stephen; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held 1 pm Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave. Rev. Jacqueline Thompson officiating. Visitation 10 am-1 pm. Family will receive friends 12-1 pm.
