Jessie Jones Obituary

Jessie Lee (Campbell) Jones, age 87, departed this life on Wednesday, June 19, 2019. Jessie was an unapologetic crusader for Christ, a loving and wonderful wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was born June 27, 1931 in Cromwell, AL to the late Luther and Marie (Ford) Campbell. She was the eldest of eleven children. Her family moved to Akron, Ohio when she was a young girl. At the age of 16, she settled in Dayton, Ohio.

She graduated from East High in 1947 and immediately started her career as a dedicated employee at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. She retired in 1980 after 33 years of Federal Service. Upon retirement, she chose to follow her calling from the Lord as a licensed, ordained minister. Jessie married Edward Garfield Jones on April 26, 1952. Four children were born to this union: Linda Marie, Thore’ Ellis, Sharon Annette, and Charlotte Denise. They were married 46 loving years.

Evangelist Jessie “Jesus” Jones, as she affectionately called herself, because she was a child of God, was baptized in Jesus' name and filled with the Holy Ghost. She was a dedicated Sunday School Teacher and devoted member of Bethesda Temple Apostolic Church serving as a member of the Baptismal Committee, Bethesda Seniors, Uplifters, and Women’s Ministry. She enjoyed ministering at the prisons and street meetings. In her early years, she rallied to institute Noonday Prayer. She faithfully attended Sunday School and Deacon Peter Conley’s Saturday Afternoon Bible Class. She truly enjoyed being in the company of her church family and was always willing to offer herself up as a servant to the Lord’s work. She also loved working crossword puzzles.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward G. Jones; son, Thore’ Jones; daughter, Sharon Leake; parents, Luther and Marie Campbell; brothers, Charles, Bobby, Lucas and Lucius Campbell; sisters, Rosa Bourne, Annette Young, Aretha Campbell and Joanne Ray.
