Jerry Lee Gillespie, age 71, born September 10, 1947 in Harmony, North Carolina was called home to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 24, 2019.
Jerry graduated from Unity High School in Statesville, North Carolina. He proudly served in the United States Army for several years. He was employed at Montgomery County Board of Disabilities Services for over 22 years and retired as supervisor with a combined 40 years of public service.
Jerry confessed Jesus Christ at an early age at Mount Nebo Baptist Church and continued believing and trusting in God. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved watching sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry was a proud and devoted father to his children.
Preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Carrie Gaither Gillespie; siblings, Mary Frances Goldsmith, Kara Waiters and James Ralph Gillespie of North Carolina.
He leaves to cherish his memories his children, Jerrilynn (Jerry) Henderson, Macheri Gillespie, Melissa (Dwayne) Thomas, La’Dachia Williams, Kila (Jeremy) Gregory, Byron Parker, LaQuoya Parker, and James Gillespie who will always cherish his wisdom, laughter and memories; siblings, Delorise (John) Boyce, Charles Sr. (Diane) Gillespie, Brenda Caldwell, Kimberly Kimbrough, Regina Boller; grandchildren, DeAundra’(Shaunce) Gillespie Sr, Eric Edmonds Sr, Erin Edmonds Sr, La’Nayia, La’Deryka , Destiny, and DaKyrah Williams, Mercedes Stargell, JeQuane and De’Kileon Parker; great grandchildren, DeAundra Jr, De’Mia and De’Lia Gillespie, Liberty, Erin Jr, Eric Jr and Ethan Edmonds, Kai and Anthony Pearson, Ri’Lynn Williams, JaMicheal and Myell Humphry; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
Funeral service will be held 1 pm Friday, May 3, 2019 at McKinley United Methodist Church, 196 Hawthorn St. Visitation 10 am at the church until time of service. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment Dayton National Cemetery.
