HAWKINS, Jennie Mae, 90, passed away December 11, 2018 at Hospice of Dayton after a short illness. She was born June 25, 1928 in Newnan, GA to the late Robert and Lella Mae Johnson and a resident of Dayton for more than 60 years. She was a lifelong member of Solid Rock Baptist Church, now (Christ Abundant Life Baptist Church), where she held many positions in the church as 1st Lady, 1st Treasurer, and 1st Custodian. She opened her arms to the poor and extended her hands to the needy. She was the best cheerleader the church ever had. Preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Pastor Samuel Hawkins; brother and sister-in-law, Deacon Robert Sr. and Edna Johnson; sister, Katherine Johnson. Left to cherish her memory her son, Rev. Parris Hawkins; sisters-in-law, Ruby Swain, Sandra Hawkins; grandchildren, Monique, Charmaine and Parris Jr. Hawkins; nieces, Elder Robin Darden, Priscilla and Carmen Hawkins; nephews, Deacon Robert Jr. (Linda) Johnson, Andre (Tricia) Hawkins; special friend, Marie Sims; a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Homegoing celebration 12 noon Wednesday, December 19, at Corinthian Baptist Church, 700 S. James H. McGee Blvd. Rev. Dr. P. E. Henderson officiating, Pastor Mark Hunt, Christ of Abundant Life Baptist Church, eulogist. Visitation 10 am-12 pm. Family will receive friends 11 am-12 pm. Interment Dayton National Cemetery.
