Dorothy P. Johnson

JOHNSON, Dorothy Louise, age 90, born June 26, 1929 in Jefferson County, AL to the late Jim and Modell Philip, transitioned from this life to be in the presence of the Lord, Monday, November 18, 2019. Dorothy worked for General Motors and retired on a medical after 15 years. She was a faithful member of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church until her illness. Dorothy was a 53-year member, faithful and dedicated in service, of the Deborah Chapter No. 19 and Amaranth Grand Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliation of Dayton Desert of Ohio.

Dorothy delighted in crafting and had a God given talent for design and sewing. She specialized in creating tailored clothes and accessories. Dorothy took great pride in home-making, her home was always immaculate and she delighted in putting her enormous cookbook collection to use. She enjoyed hosting her family in her home and would put out quite a spread of delicious dishes she had prepared. She had an infectious laugh and loved to hear funny stories. Medical challenges slowed her down a bit, but she retained her strong spirit and determination. She always had a big smile and a “Hello” for her visitors. Dorothy was cherished and will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Earnest Johnson, Jr.; sisters, Marietta Graham and Sarah Green; brother, William H. Green.

Dorothy leaves to cherish precious memories and celebrate her life, brothers, Raymond (Ina), Ronald (Joyce) and Melvin (Lori) Green; sister, Johnnie (Clyde) Chapman; sisters-in-law, Mary “Candy” MacLin and Alice Green; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.

Funeral service will be held 12:30 pm Monday, November 25, 2019 at the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave. Rev. Shelby Walker, Summit Christian Church, officiating. Visitation 10 to 11:45 am. Order of Eastern Star ceremony at 11:45 am. Interment Dayton National Cemetery.
