JONES, David L., age 84, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2018, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Clinton, Georgia, a resident of Dayton since his childhood and a member of Corinthian Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Dunbar High School and Central State University. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a lifetime member of the NAACP and a former member of the G-Men Club.
“Dave”, as he was affectionately known, was an African American Pioneer in is professional career. He was the first African American in the State of Ohio to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board of Unity State Bank, Ohio’s first Black owned bank; the President of David L. Jones & Co., C.P.A.s with offices in Dayton and Indianapolis, and Co-owner of Ken’s Chicken Korner. In his retirement he became an accomplished tournament Duplicate Bridge Player and often coached other players. David loved his family and his family loved him. His memory will continue to live on in our hearts.
Preceded in passing from this world by his sister, Elenora Jones; parents, Mandley and Ada Jones; wife, Alease Jones; son, Juan Eric Taylor. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Guinette M. (David) Kirk of Cincinnati, OH; sons, Darryl K. (Barbara) Jones of Dayton, David R. (Tammye) Jones of South Orange, NJ; special nephew whom he reared, Jesse E. Caldwell (daughter, Jessica) of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Jamie L. (Thorston) Thorpe of Atlanta, GA, Lauren Kirk of Cincinnati, OH, Alexandra A. Kirk of Boston, MA, Jillian, Harrison and Kathryn Jones of South Orange, NJ, Eric Taylor (Stephanie) of Washington, D.C., LaToya (Andre) Taylor, Everett and Richard Taylor, all of California; great grandchildren, David and Erica Taylor of Washington, D.C.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Service will be held 11 am Friday, April 27, 2018 at Corinthian Baptist Church, 700 S. James H. McGee Blvd. Rev. P. E. Henderson, Jr. officiating. Visitation 9-11 am. Family will receive friends 10-11 am. Interment West Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dunbar Alumni Association-Scholarships-David L. Jones, P.O.
