Charlie Brown Obituary

Charlie D. Brown “Dawson”, age 82 of Dayton, Ohio, born August 9, 1937 in Wetumpka, Alabama, departed this life unexpectedly, Tuesday, January 14, 2020. He was the fifth of thirteen children born to the late Willie and Maudie Brown.

Charlie moved to Dayton shortly after graduating from high school and worked with a small construction company. He was a devoted member of Abundant Life Missionary Baptist, where he served as a deacon, a member of the choir and as a part of the men of valor.  Story has it, he moved to Dayton in hopes of marrying the young beautiful Jimmie Lett.  Jimmie was apprehensive, but soon found that he was the love of her life, and from there he became the devoted husband to his wife for 62 years.

Charlie has touched many lives by his love, kindness, generosity, unique since of humor and his humble spirit. He has always set out to accomplish and achieve his dreams, first by building his own business, (Charlie Brown Construction Company, Brick, Block and Stone), after which he built his own home for his family.  In addition to Charlie building his own home, he began traveling and doing greater works for others, such as building homes, churches and businesses, etc. Charlie’s heart was so big that even after retiring from construction he continued to work helping the elderly at an assisted living home, managing school priority, and doing brick laying jobs on the side. Charlie worked from sun up to sun down with his dreams in mind. He has gone on to show his family what hard work and dedication is all about.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Maudie Brown; brothers, Henry Morris, Willie Clyde Brown, Major Brown and Clarence Brown.

Charlie leaves to cherish his memories and celebrate his legacy, his wife of over 62 years, Jimmie Brown, and his children, Cynthia Harris (Eric Harden), Wanda Brown, Perry Brown, Kenneth Brown (Cynthia Punty), Jewel (Johnathan) Gray, Bridget (Pastor Gregory) Pooler; grandchildren, Angela Harris, Rufus Harris, Ashia Johnson, Krystal Reed, Aaron Brown Sr., Jaria Gray, Omar Dawkins, Kenneth Brown, John Brown, Candice Lowery, Malachi Pooler, and Sarenitee Pooler; 27 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Artie Skipper, Maelene Hamlett, Mabel (Pastor Hubert) Baker, Edna (Pastor Dan) Craig, Daisy Edwards, and Jackie Brown; sisters-in-law, Annie Joyce Brown and Ora Brown; son-in-law, Rufus Harris; special friend, Dean Turner; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
