Charleszetta Anderson Obituary

Charleszetta Jones Anderson, age 76, of Dayton, Ohio, departed this earthly life Thursday, June 20, 2019 after battling cancer. “Nana”, as she was affectionately called by many, was born November 26, 1942 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. She received Christ at an early age and joined Jerusalem Baptist Church in Preston, Oklahoma. 

Charleszetta attended and graduated in 1960 from Wheatley High School in Beggs, Oklahoma. She went on to attend the Capital Business University in Oklahoma City where she graduated with her Associates Degree.

She met Joseph Anderson in 1963 in Oklahoma while he served in the U.S. Army and they were married on March 14, 1964. The union was blessed with their only child, Angela Lynnette. 

Charleszetta and Joseph moved to Dayton, Ohio where she went on to continue her education in Social Work attending Sinclair Community College, Central State University and Wright State University. 

Charleszetta began her professional career in 1965 working for the Montgomery County Department of Human Services where she worked in Management holding several positions that allowed her to use her skills and gifts to improve the quality of life for those she served. She retired in 1999 after 34 years of service. After retirement, she volunteered at Dayton Academy and worked with her longtime friend, Dr. Janice Coates at Coates Vision Center. 

Charleszetta was received into full membership at the Mt. Enon Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend John F. Cunningham on April 6, 1980. She remained an active and faithful member serving in a number of different capacities over the years including the Hospitality Committee, Women’s Day Committee and Decorating Committee. She was known for her event planning, beautiful floral arrangements and decorating skills.

Charleszetta was the daughter of Sidney and Maxine Patrick Stell. She is preceded in death by her loving parents; brother, Sidney E. Stell and sister, Cydney N. Stell. She leaves to cherish loving memories, her husband of 55 years, Joseph Anderson; daughter, Angela Howard (Barry Sr.); brother, Austin Patrick of Oklahoma City; sister, LaVelma Denson of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Julian, Maya and Barry Jr. (Kaylah); beloved friend, Evelyn Bonner; other daughter, Karen Thomas (Jeffrey); Goddaughters, Karla Moon Coburn and Tischa Coates; a host of loving relatives and friends. 

Charleszetta’s generosity and love for others will leave a void. She leaves a legacy that will remain in our hearts forever. Her extraordinary strength and courage during her illness amazed her family and friends. She continuously praised God for the blessing of her life and journey.  

Funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday, June 27, at Mt. Enon M.B. Church, 1501 W. Third St. Visitation 9 am at the church until time of service. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment Dayton National Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc.
