Nyra Deneen Landrum (Wright) was born on December 27, 1964, in Dayton, Ohio, the eldest of two children born to Richard and Anita Wright. She moved to Jefferson Township at an early age and went on to matriculate through Jefferson Township Public Schools to complete her primary and secondary education. During this time, Nyra made several close friends with whom she remained connected throughout her life.
While attending Jefferson Township Senior High School, Nyra was an active participant in several extracurricular activities including concert choir and track & field. After graduating from Jefferson Township Senior High School in 1983, Nyra went on to attend Hampton University where she majored in Business Management. After completing her studies and receiving her bachelor’s degree in 1987, Nyra returned to Dayton to begin her professional career.
Nyra was active in the Dayton community in her adult life. During Nyra’s professional career, she worked as an Administrator for the Montgomery County (Ohio) Board of Elections. She would later go on to serve on the Montgomery County Juvenile Court Citizen Review Board. In July 1992, she gave birth to her only child, her pride and joy, son Jaryn Landrum. In 1996, Nyra was initiated into the Beta Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She worshipped at St. Paul AME Zion Church throughout her adult life and continued to have strong ties to the church.
In 1988, shortly after beginning her career, Nyra was formally diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
