Robert Melvin Sherrod

February 15, 1939 ~ October 2, 2017 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Robert Melvin Sherrod, 78, Air Force veteran, entertainer, cook, father and brother, died Monday, October 2, 2017 at Maria-Joseph Rehabilitation Center, after a long illness. "Bobby", as he was called by family, was born February 15, 1939 in Hobgood, NC to the late McDonald and Marion Burnett-Sherrod. 

Robert graduated from Brawley High School in North Carolina in 1957 and immediately followed his two older brothers by joining the Air Force. Robert was assigned to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base where he and his older brother, Spencer, served. 

Robert was discharged in 1965 and loved Dayton so much that he decided to make it his home. He worked for General Motors for a while then became a cook for local clubs. After a while, he decided to start his own business where he would cook and entertain.

Robert is survived by his son, Antwone (Terri) of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Helena Graham and granddaughter, Briece of Dayton; brothers, Spencer Sherrod (Linda) of California, William Sherrod (Bettye) of Pennsylvania, Douglas Sherrod of North Carolina, Larry Sherrod of Delaware, Rudolph Sherrod of Pennsylvania; sisters, Marian Powell (Charles) of Pennsylvania, Delores Lanier (Donald) and Dorothy Mitchell, both of North Carolina; a host of other relatives and friends.


Visitation 9:00 am to 1:00 pm Monday, October 9, 2017 at the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc. 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave. Funeral service will be held in his hometown of Hobgood, NC at Longs Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Burnett Family Cemetery in Oak City, NC.
