RATTON, Sr., Richard T., age 84, of Dayton, born October 18, 1932 in Des Moines, IA to the late Hall Sr. and Mary Ratton, transitioned from this life Friday, May 12, 2017. Richard attended the Des Moines public school system and was a graduate of the University of Iowa. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, a retired Dayton Public School teacher, and also retired from the U. S. Postal Service after many years of service. He was the past president of the Optimist Club of Dayton. Dick, as many of his friends and family called him, was a Christian who was very intelligent, loving and a fun guy who enjoyed his family, his music, fishing and cooking (He loved to eat). On every second Thursday of the month he would have lunch with his retired postal worker friends. He was a wonderful dad and husband who always had a listening ear to whatever you wanted to talk about. Preceded in death by 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 6 nieces and 1 nephew. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife, Elenora (Farmer) Ratton; sons, Richard Ratton Jr. of Jamaica, NY, James (Tammy) Williams of Baltimore, MD; daughter, Alycia (Reggie) Boggs of Cincinnati, OH; sister, Delores Bowen; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral service 1 pm Friday, May 19, 2017 at Maranatha Worship Centre, 4501 Wolf Rd., Trotwood. Dr. Truman L. Martin officiating. Visitation 10 am-1 pm. Family will receive friends 12-1 pm. Interment Dayton National Cemetery.
