Welcome to the memorial page for

Mae C. (Woods) McCleskey

July 18, 1953 ~ May 17, 2017 (age 63) 63 Years Old

In Jefferson City, Missouri a baby girl was born,

Not knowing that she would take on this great world by storm.

The month was July, the date the eighteenth

In the insignificant year of 1953.

Who would’ve thought this baby girl called “Mae”

Would leave precious footprints in our lives every day.

The oldest girl of six born to Johnny and Ethel Lee

Had big dreams of being who God intended her to be.

She became the proud mother of children totaling four

Whom she loved without strings, prayed for, and adored.

She loved the thought of dance, it seemed to set her free

Mind, body, and spirit. She could be who she wanted to be.

Her passion didn’t stop there, as her thirst seemed to soar

She published her first book called “Vengeance of War”.

Proving that you’re never too old to stop learning

She went back to college. An Associate’s Degree she was earning.

Criminal Justice was the field she loved.

Hoping to solve crimes was what she dreamed of.

But one day in March our faith became a test

When Mae had to have removal of her breast.

2014 became the year of all blessings

When we learned that this test was turned into a message.

She fought like a soldier while her faith was being tried

For three long years with laughter and cries.

Her 4 children beside her, and grandkids in her thoughts.

For those six lereasons she fought and fought.

Then seven great grandchildren came into her life

It increased her willingness to continue her fight.

She came, she saw, she conquered, and she loved

But now it was time to transition to above.

With every ounce of her being she tried as best as she would

To remain behind to help her family anyway that she could.

But God said differently as her time stood still

He reached down and said “Come home. I’ve paid your bill.”

May 17, you made the transition to home

No worries, no cares, all your troubles will be gone.

In the bosom of God you’ll gain your sweet rest

We loved you mom, but God loved your best.

Preceded in death by her husband, Reese McCleskey; parents, John and Ethel Myrick; sister, Annie Myrick. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Leiland (Melanie) Woods, Lorene Woods, Fannie Woods, Marsha Woods; sister, Viella Myrick; brothers, James Myrick, Jack "Smell Good" Myrick; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
