James Wallace Hawkins Sr., took his heavenly flight Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Hospice of Dayton. Mr. Hawkins touched many lives with his laughter, generosity and loving spirit. “Hawk”, “Uncle Hawk” or “Mr. Hawkins”, as he was affectionately called, was born in Frankfort, Kentucky, where he resided for many years until his move to Dayton Ohio. He was a graduate of Mayo-Underwood, Frankfort, Kentucky. He enlisted in the U. S. Air Force during 1952 and fought in the Korean War. After discharge, he worked at the Commonwealth of Kentucky and upon his move to Dayton, worked at the Chrysler Corp. and later retired from data processing at National City (PNC) Bank. Prior to his illness, Mr. Hawkins was an active member of Macedonia Baptist Church where he participated in the choir and Male Chorus. He was a member of the American Legion Post 526, enjoyed travel and sports, especially golf. Mr. Hawkins was devoted to family; a husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. Preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary Anderson Hawkins; siblings, Thomas Hawkins, June Hawkins and Anna Hawkins Gordon. He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife of 60+ years, Jean C. Gaines Hawkins; brother, John Hawkins of Washington D.C.; children, Ercell C. Hawkins-Vaughn, James Hawkins Jr. and Deborha Million; granddaughters, Toyan Million, Grecia Vaughn; great granddaughter, Naemah Nzerum; sister-in-law, Jeanette Williams; special cousins, Lucy Conda, Mary Hanley; along with a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral service will be held 12 noon Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Macedonia Baptist Church, 27 N. Gettysburg Ave. Interment Dayton National Cemetery. Visitation 10 am-12 pm. Family will receive friends 11 am-12 pm. Arrangements entrusted to the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave.
