Doris Jean Cockrell

COCKRELL, Doris Jean, age 77, of Dayton, born February 10, 1941 in Birmingham, AL, passed away Friday, March 2, 2018. A retired teacher of Dayton Public Schools after 40 years, the last 23 years at Nettie Lee Roth Middle School. She was a dedicated member of Greater Allen A.M.E. Church. Preceded in death by her parents, George & Sammie Joe Daniels; husband of 53 years, Willie Cockrell; son, Terrance Shawn Cockrell; two sisters, one brother. She leaves to remember and cherish her memory, her son, James Keith Cockrell; daughters, Kimberly Cockrell, Lisa Taylor; granddaughter, Tiffany Cockrell; five sisters, one brother; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral service 11 am Friday, March 9, 2018 at Greater Allen A.M.E. Church, 1620 W. Fifth St. Rev. Elmer S. Martin, officiating; Rev. Dr. Earl G. Harris, eulogist. Interment Woodland Cemetery. Visitation 9 am Friday at the church until time of service. Family will receive friends one hour prior. Arrangements entrusted to the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N.
