TURNER, Barbara A., born May 23, 1938, was called home to be with the Lord February 16, 2017. An active member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, she was a God-fearing and beautiful soul. Barbara moved to Dayton, Ohio at age 13 and was raised by her uncle and aunt, Horace and Ruth Edmonds. After graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1956, she was employed at Inland, a division of General Motors, from which she retired after many years of employment. Following retirement from Inland, she embarked on a new career in the field of Cosmetology and became a Licensed Nail Technician at Merle Norman and Elder-Beerman Hair Salon. She was also employed at Good Samaritan Hospital from which she finally retired. Born to sing, she was known for her soprano voice as a member of the “World Renowned, Internationally Known” Bethel Sanctuary Choir. Her other ministry involvement included the Missionaries, Culinary and Chapeliers. She was very dutiful in the service she provided. Barbara was also a member of the Red Hat Society and The National Council of Negro Women. A lover of travel, she visited her family as much as possible. The annual Chapeliers’ trips to Pennsylvania with her church family were always a highlight. Known for her awesome cooking skills, her homemade yeast rolls were everybody's favorite. Sister Turner was preceded in death by her father, Deacon William Taylor Sr.; mother, Gertrude W. Edmonds; siblings, Horace, George Jr. and Rosetta Palmer, Ouida Washam. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Arthella Turner Jr.; daughters, Teresa (Mark) Drake, Robin (Taji) Newsome, Viola “Wendye” (Charles) Turner, Lisa (Martin) Tabler, Terrie (Tony) Thomas; sons, Todd (Maurieta) Washam, Arthella III (Tosha) Turner; siblings, brother, William Jr. (Catherine) Taylor; sisters, Georgia Cheeks, Renetta (Eugene) Sims, Sadie Page; a host of grandchildren , great grandchildren, loving nieces, nephews and cousins.Funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Bethel M. B. Church, 401 S. Paul Laurence Dunbar St. Rev. Xavier Johnson officiating. Interment Woodland Cemetery. Visitation 9-11 am. Family will receive friends 10-11 am.
