Atha Jean Strickland

MS. ATHA JEAN STRICKLAND, age 80, born May 9, 1936, was called home suddenly to be with the Lord March 1, 2017 at her residence. Atha attended Dunbar High School and was a majorette. She was a retired employee of Kettering Medical Center after many years of service. Atha was introduced to the Lord at a young age and joined Tabernacle Baptist Church where she was a member for many years. She later became a member of the Dayton View Church Nazarene before her passing. Atha loved the Lord and could tell you several stories about the Bible. She loved her family and friends while enjoying family gatherings with food and music. One thing she was known for was her “Homemade Pound Cakes”, desserts and baking was her life. Everyone who knew her knew that if she remembered your birthday then you were getting a cake. Atha was a loving person who gave what she had whether it was food or money. Preceded in death by her loving parents, William Sr. and Lassie Strickland; brothers, William Strickland, Jr. and Earl Strickland, Sr.; sister, Marcia Strickland; children, Reginald Strickland and Loma Strickland (Stevens); grandsons, Demetrius Frazier and Dion Stevens; niece, Tia Strickland; great nephew, Ricky Turner; best friend, Janise Tillman. She leaves to cherish her memories: sister, Judith Henderson; daughter, Deetra Strickland; son, Charles Stanley Strickland, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Marsha E. Strickland; a favorite cousin, Wilma Wells; loving grandchildren, Latonya, Charles, Corey, Dana, Samuel “Spank”, Stanjuan, Jermaine, Angel, Cynquita, Charles Jr., Crystal, Ebony, Kevin, Toi, Demetrius, Nichelle, De’Ara, Dion and Fred; 29 great grandchildren; a special God-daughter, Sherrill Smith; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed. Funeral service will be held 12 noon Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Greater Love Fellowship COGIC, 235 Superior Ave. Interment Jeffersonview Cemetery. Visitation 10 am at the church until time of service. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Arrangements entrusted to the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc.
